Buttermilk Bread

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ c buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla optional
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • ¼ c oil

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 pkg Grandpa’s Kitchen Bread Mix
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp yeast

Instructions

Bread Maker:

  • Mix wet and dry ingredients separately. Put wet ingredients in bread maker and pour dry ingredients on top. Put yeast on top of all. Better if it only rises and is kneaded once.

Oven Method:

  • Add ingredients and mix for five minutes. Scrape into bread pan and let rise until level with the top of pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Loosely cover with foil half way through baking.
  • Variations: Add 3-4 tsp cinnamon. Near end of kneading cycle, add ½ c raisins or craisins. For oven method, fold into batter.

Notes

Note: I like the buttermilk, it gives it a lighter but less sweet taste. The vanilla pudding is great also but it is a sweeter bread. Also, I don’t use the sugar and I don’t notice a difference.
